Office Hours:  Regular hours for scheduled well child visits are from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and Friday; 9am to 12 pm .  Calls to make appointments. They can be made beginning at 9am Monday through Friday. Patients are seen by appointment only. We try to see all patients on time, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. Appointments for routine physicals or for special problems should be scheduled well in advance. Please notify us as soon as possible if you are unable to keep an appointment.

Dr. Greenberg is in a group practice with Dr. Goodis. If  Dr. Greenberg is unavailable during the day or away on holidays, Dr. Goodis will cover and see Dr. Greenberg's patients as needed.

What to Bring to Your Appointment::  You must bring a valid OHIP card to each appointment. Be aware that there is an expiry date on OHIP cards. If the card is expired, it is invalid and you will be requested to pay for your child's visits until you obtain a new card. If you do not have OHIP coverage but have private insurance, bring all necessary insurance forms with you. If you have a newborn baby, your OHIP number from the hospital is only temporary. You must register with OHIP within three months to obtain a valid permanent OHIP card. Also, please try to bring your child's immunization record to any well check appointment.  A list of questions to ask the doctor will also help in ensuring that all your concerns and questions are answered.

Walk-in Appointments:  We do not allow walk-in appointments, except for an emergency.   Please call before coming to the office or we may not be able to see your child.

Telephone:  We encourage you to use the phone during office hours.  Many problems may be solved with advice over the phone, saving you the time and cost of a visit. If you are calling about a non-urgent problem or you need advice, medication dosages, etc., you will be asked to leave a message. Please understand that if we are busy with emergencies or patients with appointments, these will take priority over a non-urgent phone call, but we will return your call as soon as we possibly can. If you feel that your child needs to be seen by the doctor, we ask that you call early in the day so that we can accomodate your scheduling requests. It is helpful if you have a pencil and paper with you when you call, so that you can easily make notes. A list of questions you want to ask might also be helpful.

Telephone Prescriptions :  We are often asked to prescribe medication over the phone. As long as we are able to update your child's medications through regular examinations, we are certainly happy to refill prescriptions for chronic problems such as asthma, allergies, seizure disorders, etc. In general, however, we feel it is bad policy to prescribe medications, especially antibiotics, without seeing the patient. In setting this policy, our number one concern is your child's welfare. Of course, we realize that emergencies arise. In certain circumstances, we will prescribe an antibiotic over the phone, but we will expect that you will bring the patient to the office as soon as possible so that we can confirm our diagnosis. We are happy to provide this service, but it is against the policy of this office to treat by phone when there is a more serious illness or a patient who has never been seen in our office.  If you are calling for a prescription refill or think that we might need to call your pharmacy, please have the pharmacy phone number available when you call.

Night and Weekend Coverage: 

On evenings and weekends, for telephone advice about your child, please call Telehealth at 811.

As a further backup for evening and weekend illnesses, Dr. Greenberg also works on a rotation with 25 other pediatricians at the Children's After Hours Clinics. There are two locations: 1) 1100 Sheppard Ave. E. near Leslie Ave. and 2) 235 Danforth Ave near Broadway Ave. They are open on weekday evenings from 6pm to 9pm. On weekends and holidays they are open from 10am to 6pm at the Danforth Clinic and 10am to 2pm at the Sheppard Clinic. These are walk-in clinics and so no appointment is necessary; patients are seen on a first-come basis.

Well Checks:  We encourage you to make summer well check appointments for camp, school, or sports physicals early in the season.  We are very busy with these appointments in June and late August and may not be able to accommodate you on short notice during this time of year.  Please bring your child's immunization record to all well check appointments. Keep a list of any concerns you have. Bring it with you so you remember to discuss them at your visit.

How to make the visit easier for your child:  Schedule visits at a time when your child isn't usually napping. Use a toy doctor's kit ot teach your child about all the things the doctor will do when you visit. Or bring along a favourite stuffed animal or doll who gets an exam along with your child. Young children may find it difficult to sit still in a doctor's waiting room. Bring a couple of books, a favourite toy and a snack to help keep your child busy and happy during the wait. If your child is older, explain why she is visiting the doctor. Use simple, easy to understand language. If it is for a regular check-up, explain that all children see a doctor, and that the doctor checks how she is growing and developing. Tell your older child or adolescent that she can see the doctor without you in the room. This might help her feel more comfortable talking with the doctor.

Uninsured Services:  There are a number of services provided by our office which is not covered by OHIP. These services include filling out health forms, sick and back to school notes, letters to consultants, prescription renewals, and record transfers. One may wish to have these services charged on an individual basis, averaging $20 to $35 per service, or be charged an annual fee which would cover the above and other similar services. Currently the annual fee is $140 for one child and $175 for 2 children in a family.

Confidentiality: Your child's medical record is strictly private. No information regarding your child's condition will be given out to your child's school, friends, or relatives without your permission. The only exception to this is when required by law.

Teenage patients should feel comfortable to discuss any questions or problems with full assurance of confidentiality. Dr. Greenberg is their doctor, not their parent's. If a teenager reveals a life-threatening or serious problem which parents should know about, parents will be informed only after discussing the need to do so with the teenager.

No Shows and Late Shows:  If you will not be able to keep an appointment, please call our office to cancel as far in advance as possible so that we can see another patient in that time slot.  If you are more than 15 minutes late for an appointment, we may have to reschedule you on a future date.  If you miss an appointment without canceling, we may charge you a missed appointment fee.
